성전환수술을 했다 하더라도 성별을 온전히 바꿀 수는 없습니다.
그런데 이제는 일부 인권단체들이 성전환 수술을 하지 않고도 성별 정정을 허용해달라고까지 요구하고 있습니다.
예를 들어,
남자가 생식기는 그대로 유지한 채로도 본인이 스스로 여자라고 주장하면 여성으로 성별 정정 을 할 수 있게 허용 해 달라는 요구입니다.
그런 주장대로 성별 정정을 용이하게 바꾼 나라인 캐나다에서는 이를 악용한 보험사기 범죄가 드러나 언론에 소개되었습니다.
캐나다와 미국에서 통계적으로
남자가 여자보다 자동차 사고를 낼 가능성이 높다는 통계 기반하여
25세 미만 남성 운전자들은 여성 운전자 보다 더 많은 자동차 보험료를 지불해야 되는 경우가 있는데요.
자동차 보험 회사가 청구하는 높은 요금이 불만이었던 한 20대 캐나다 남성은 더 저렴한 자동차보험료를 적용 받기 위해서 수술 없이 법적으로 성별을 전환했습니다.
성전환 수술 없이 성별 정정을 허용해 주는 것은 결국 성별에 관련된 많은 사회적 분야에 악용될 수 있습니다.
